Migration and human rights: The United Nations Convention on Migrant Workers' Rights

This volume examines the UN Convention on Migrant Workers' Rights, the most comprehensive international treaty on migration and human rights. Adopted in 1990 and in force since 2003, the Convention establishes key standards for migrants' access to fundamental rights. Yet it continues to face notable indifference: only a limited number of states have ratified it, and no major country of immigration has done so. Bringing together researchers, international officials, and NGO experts, the book analyzes the historical background, legal content, and current political challenges surrounding the Convention.
Through an interdisciplinary approach combining law, sociology, and political science, it sheds light on why migrants' rights remain a neglected dimension of globalization despite migrants' essential role in the global economy.
