This collective volume examines the lasting impact of the trans-Saharan and transatlantic slave trades on some of today’s most pressing global issues, including development, human rights, and cultural pluralism. It highlights how the systematic dismantling of African societies and the massive forced displacement of populations reshaped the African continent while profoundly transforming the Americas and the Caribbean. 
Produced within UNESCO’s Slave Route: Memory of Peoples project, the book brings together scholars and thinkers from Africa, Europe, the Americas, and the Caribbean. Their contributions offer renewed perspectives, raise essential questions, and illuminate debates that remain deeply relevant to understanding historical memory, inequality, and the continuing consequences of slavery in the contemporary world.
